JRI-AC Chapter Meeting

February 23rd, 2010

The Anderson County Chapter met Tuesday evening. Nine Members were present and had pizza and ice cream. They discussed the banquet coming up on Saturday, and viewed the web site of the Banquet Speaker. Six of the Members present said they plan to attend the banquet, and most of those will bring a spouse. A motion for the Chapter to present an eagle statue to the speaker did not pass.

Jerry Mustin, Harry Baumgartner and Lynn Fox will post the colors for the Colonial Dames on March 5.

Gene Hicks brought up the idea of having an informal Summer Meeting at Marble Springs instead of a formal Banquet.

E MAIL ADDRESSES REQUESTED

January 5th, 2010

When you receive your membership dues notice this year, please indicate your email address on your return form. The Registrar will update our files accordingly. Also, I will use this means to contact members of noteworthy events/happenings which will, in many cases, be more timely than thru the Rifleman publication. David Whaley 2009-2010 Pres.

November Board of Managers Meeting

November 22nd, 2009

The Registrar reported that we are losing members far faster than we are gaining new members. Each and every member is encouraged to recruit family and friends to join the Society. Joining a local chapter (or forming one if there is not one in your county) is the best way to become an active member.

The State Society has only about 50 active members. The other 650 members rarely, if ever, participate in the events of the Society. For those members, the Rifleman is an important benefit of membership. Recognizing this, the board passed a resolution directing that the Rifleman be published quarterly.

The Tennessee Society standing rules have not been updated for some time. The Board asked that the previous edition of the rules be distributed to each board member, and additions or corrections be collected for consideration at the January meeting of the Board. Once the standing rules are approved by the Board, copies will be made for distribution.

Christmas Celebration – Charles Carroll, president of the European Society, plans to host a special party for the Officers, members of the Board of Managers, and active members of the Tennessee Society on December 11. Information about this event may be obtained from Charles, or from Chris Christenberry.

Sons of the Revolution in the State of Florida

The Delegates to the Triennial Convention of the General Society of the Sons of the Revolution voted on Friday, July 25 to accept the Florida Society’s payment of dues in arrears and welcome them back into good standing. The Delegates expect that we are on the path to restoring the General Society’s reputation as a confederation of Sovereign and independent State Societies, and that any animosities that may have developed in recent years will fade as we seek together to further our goals of patriotic celebration of the independence and freedoms won by our ancestors, and fellowship with our fellow patriots.
